The Rose of Tralee International Festival is the start of the selection process for the Rose of Tralee, an event that has been running for many, many years. During the international festival Irish women and those of Irish descent from all over the world are welcomed to compete for the coveted Rose of Tralee title, a beauty contest that takes its name from the old song.
At the opening of the festival there is the Gala Rose Ball where more than 900 people enjoy a meal, live music and dancing. From there the festival takes the shape of the various Roses (the name given to the competitors) visiting areas and taking part in fashion shows, parades and so on. There is street theatre to be entertained by, circus acts, markets that showcase the best of Irish products, fun fairs and a lot more.
The Rose of Tralee is then broadcast over two nights, and on the final night the winner will be chosen. Being involved in the festival is really entertaining and you can’t help but get swept up in the event while you are there. Travelling to the Rose of Tralee Festival by coach the best option for a group – you won’t have to worry about traffic or parking and you’ll be able to enjoy a drink along the way! Don’t forget that if you wish to get along to the Festival Dome (where the final will be held) you will need to secure tickets. The Festival Dome is a 2000 capacity venue and where supporters and friends of the contestants will be shouting support and waving banners for their Rose.
